 CanyonArts Festival Literary Corner

Saturday April 30th. 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
in the middle school commons

If you keep a journal, or if you find yourself elegantly describing the things you see, you won't want to miss the workshops and readings in our brand new CanyonArts Literary Corner.

We on the festival committee are proud to call local writer Elaina Turpin one of our own. Her idea to bring the literary arts into the festival has been a boon for all involved. In addition to presenting her own picture driven workshop, Elaina will host three renowned authors in an array of literary activities throughout the day.

Please join Elaina in welcoming Eleanor Berry who will use historical objects to generate poetic inspiration. As part of the fun, there will be a fiction reading by Geronimo Tagatac, and Ce Rosenow will round things out with a Haiku workshop and Haiku readings.

During the day, the Peregrines Poetry Group will stop by, and Oregon State Children's Poetry winners who will read original works. Finally, if you've ever thought about trying your hand at performance literature, stop by the Corner between 1:30-2:00 for "open mic" readings

Eleanor Berry moved to Lyons, Oregon, from Wisconsin in 1994. A former teacher of writing and literature at Willamette University, she has organized poetry readings and events in Stayton since 2002.  She serves on the boards of the Marion Cultural Development Corporation, the Oregon State Poetry Association, and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. Her poetry and essays on poetry have been widely published in journals and anthologies. Green November, a

Geronimo Tagatac has published stories in Alternatives Magazine, The Northwest Review, Writers Forum, Orion, and other literary journals.  He's been the recipient of an Oregon Literary Arts fellowship and taught creative writing for the Fishtrap Writer in Residence program.  His first collection of short fiction, The Weight of the Sun, was a 2006 Oregon Book Award finalist.  Many of his stories have their seeds in his experiences as a farmworker, folksinger, modern and jazz dancer, special forces soldier, short order cook, ski bum, cubicle denizen, and global backpacker.  When he's not on the road, he lives and writes in Salem, Oregon.  Most of the time, he tries to practice his own form of creative invisibility.

Ce Rosenow’s poetry has appeared in journals and anthologies across the U.S. and abroad, including Fireweed, Hummingbird, Modern Haiku, and Origin. Her books and chapbooks include The Backs of Angels, Even If, North Lake, Pacific, and A Year Longer, and she is one of the eight authors of Beyond Within: A Collection of Rengay. She is the current President of the Haiku Society of America and the publisher of Mountains and Rivers Press in Eugene.
