It is also a great pleasure to announce that we have been approved as a qualifying nonprofit for an Oregon dollar for dollar tax credit, and that is in addition to your tax deduction. Tax deduction? Tax credit? I was confused at first, but it really is quite simple. A tax deduction lowers your taxable income, the amount on which you pay taxes. A smaller percentage of income means a smaller percentage of income tax. That’s a good thing in itself, but a tax credit is not a percentage; it is a dollar for dollar match against your tax liability, the amount you owe. Since you have to pay taxes anyway, why not support Hearts to Arts AND The Oregon Cultural Trust?
