What We Do...
There is much talk about what community benefit could come from the arts. Everyone seems to agree that the arts: visual, music, craft, dance etc. really do have a lot to do with our history and culture. Because of this, we have many projects in different stages of development.
Our signature project, the CanyonArts Festival is our largest and most complicated venture. Please visit the website link above to learn more.
In line with our mission to bring cultural opportunities to our community, we have joined Salvation Army’s Kroc Center in Salem Oregon to develop a theatre outreach program. Our first production of Sarah Plain and Tall was a great success, and we look forward to many such successes ahead.
It first acknowledged that our local school district has suffered from budget cuts that caused a lack of funding for the arts. Therefore, one of the prime objectives of Hearts to Arts is to develop and provide programs that address student need.
Arts in School: Santiam Hearts to Arts will fight to reestablish art and music education and extracurricular activity as a solid part of the Santiam School District curriculum. With the understanding that school district budget dollars have been diminished with the decline of timber funds, Santiam Hearts to Arts seeks see balance achieved in the distribution of available funds for sports, academic, and arts education and activity.
In the early discussions the possibility of arts related activities include:
· an after school art program · artist visits · music and art workshops · series of visiting art classes
Aside from school activities, we would also like to pursue community art related projects to citizens of all ages: toddlers, seniors, teens, and we are especially interested in programs that bridge the gaps between generations, cultures, economic and educational differences.
If you have ideas to share, please contact us.
